Iris 'Caesar's Brother'

Iris 'Caesar's Brother'

This utterly stunning Siberian iris or Siberian flag is a clump-forming plant. In June and July its intense violet-blue flowers appear, each one speckled and striped on the throat with white and golden yellow. The blooms stand out from the mass of bright green, strap-like leaves. It is a variety that is slightly taller than most. Growing from a rhizome (similar to a bulb), Iris sibirica 'Caesar's Brother' prefers a moist, neutral to slightly acid soil in sun or partial shade. It looks best planted in bold drifts beside water, and then left alone to naturalise. It is particularly useful on difficult banks, where it will help to prevent soil erosion.

Iris sibirica 'Caesar's Brother' needs space to spread out as, over time, it will form into a large clump. If you have a pond, this iris can also be planted in an aquatic pot and set in the water, as a marginal plant. Siberian flag irises are easy, trouble-free, sturdy and upright, and seldom troubled by insect pests.
